There is plenty of confusion out there about what to eat and what not to eat when trying to lose weight. For our convenience, we always have these handy medicine kits or pill boxes where just pick whatever pill we need at the moment. Pain killers, supplements, energy boosters, and of course, antibiotics! We are always after fast relief and convenience.

What Do Carbohydrates Do? Are They Good Or Bad For You?

What do carbohydrates do?  Are they good or bad for you?  These two questions seem to be the million dollar questions.  Because of the various low carb diets millions of people everywhere are becoming carb conscious including myself.  Since I have asked myself what do carbohydrates do and are they good or bad for me.  I have done some research to answer these questions and I am going to share with you what I have found.

The answers to the questions are very simple; What do carbohydrates do?  They are a source of energy.  Are they good or bad for you?  Yes and yes, they are both good and bad for you.  To meet your nutritional needs and reduce the risk of chronic disease adults should get 45% - 65% of their calories from carbohydrates.

Understanding carbohydrates is not that hard.  There are good carbs (complex carbs) which are whole grains, vegetables, fruits and beans.  These carbs are absorbed slowly and avoid spikes in blood sugar.  Also, good carbs also gives us fiber which important to our diet.  Then there are bad carbs (simple carbs) which come from sugars, added sugars and refined white grains.

What do carbohydrates do.  If you have a meal that is made up of simple carbs you will spike your blood sugar and your body will then have to secrete insulin into your blood to cause the sugar level to drop, including your energy.  If you have a meal of complex carbs which takes longer to digest you will have long term energy.

My research also showed me that eating several small meals a day is much better for my body than eating three large meals a day.  It speeds up my metabolism.

What do carbohydrates do?  They provide your body with a source or energy and fiber.

How to Make Sure You Get Enough Minerals in Your Diet Quickly

Are you having problems with your diet? Are you wondering whether you’re getting enough of the right kind of minerals each day? This article reveals the essential foods you must eat to at least obtain some of the essential minerals your body is desperate for.

It is a known fact these days that our foods are less nutritious than they were some 60 years ago. It is not just processed foods that are a problem, it is such basic foods as fresh fruits and vegetables as well as cheese, milk and meats like beef and chicken. It is also a known fact that the level of iron in our food - perhaps the most important mineral for good health - has declined by over 50 per cent in meat such as beef over that time. Indeed, in the UK the amount of trace minerals in the soils have fallen by 76 per cent. The government has admitted this. This is clearly alarming.

So what is going on? Well, in order to feed large populations, chemical fertilizers have to be used to reinvigorate minerally depleted soils. It is not quality that counts these days - it is quantity that is the overriding factor because millions of people have to be fed each day. Farmers are pushed by the supermarkets to produce high yields at low cost. This has resulted in the nutritional value of food being at its lowest ever has been, and will continue to decline.

Our poor farmers are dependent on fertilizers, pesticides and plant food that creates unnatural growth. The food and farm industry closes its ears to any mention of mineral depletion in soils. Chemically dependent farming methods are not designed to produce nutritious food, and they cannot anyway, because of the mineral problem. Dumping lots of phosphorus, potash and nitrogen in the soil hardly makes any difference because the vital trace elements have all gone.

So what can you do just to make sure you are actually getting some of right kind of minerals your body desperately needs?

Well, for a start you can source food that you know has been farmed correctly. Not all farm soils are badly depleted in nutrients so you will have to do some searching around. Some say choose organic foods, but there is some doubt as to whether organically-grown products contain any more nutrients than non-organically grown produce.

What you are looking for are foods that contain as many minerals and trace elements as possible. It is simply not good enough to rely on foods that only contain the seven major minerals (as recommended by the World Health Organization) as the recommended daily amount (RDA). These are calcium, chlorine, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, sodium and sulfur. You need more elements. Lots more.

Perhaps the most fertile soils are those near to active volcanoes. Our planet Earth has every single element in the Periodic Table in it because it was formed in the primordial solar nebula that contained all 92 natural elements which gave birth to the Sun and its planets. So, inside the Earth are all the elements needed for a us to live long and healthily. When a volcanoes releases ashes, steam, dust and lava it releases tons of those nice trace elements, too. That is how good volcanic basalt is.

So why not plough in some volcanic soil into our depleted soils? Obviously we can’t eat the minerals directly, we need to allow plants to assimilate the trace elements into their tissues and fruits first. There is a farm in Scotland that is trying this out and is experiencing great success. Apparently, crops flourish and grow big - very big. Disease pest resistance is very good.

In the meantime, all you can do is to find out where particular food products came from and decide whether they are nutritious enough.

Mineral depletion is a health nightmare. Be very aware of it.

The principles in this article should go a long way to helping you become healthy. Being healthy is not a pipe dream or for those with the perfect genetic make up.

Fresh Corn is Rich in Vitamin B and Much More!

The first thing you need to know about corn is that it is extremely rich in Thiamin, which is Vitamin B1. Vitamin B1 is an essential vitamin that is water-soluble. It helps you use your blood glucose for energy as well as your central nervous system health, heart functions, and your muscle. Phosphorus is also found in corn. You will get at least 15 percent of this mineral by a serving of corn. You need phosphorus because it is the mineral that is essential to bone health just as calcium is.

Manganese is also part of corn. Managanese is essential for digestion of the essential nutrients your body continually needs,plays a role in your bones staying healthy, helps the thyroid gland to function well, and glucose metabolism. A serving of fresh corn will give you at least 15 percent of manganese.

Paprika For Health?

Paprika has always been a spice of questionable appreciation. Many people have a strong dislike for it’s pungent and spicy flavor and many of them are unaware of the various flavors of Paprika. It can be sweet, spicy, smoky and much depends on the region it comes from.

Recently researchers have found that Paprika is more than a flavoring for food, it has numerous health providing aspects as well. For example, it is a good source of vitamin C, and also found to promote circulation and helps with menstrual cramping.

Okay–that’s good to know but is that all?

No, the amazing healing and health properties of Paprika are being discovered and surprising researchers. They have found that the capsicum peppers used for paprika contain six to nine times as much vitamin C as tomatoes by weight.

It’s also now being considered to be an antibacterial agent and stimulant and can be used to help normalize blood pressure, improve circulation, and increase the production of saliva and stomach acids to aid digestion.

Wow! It can do all that? But how do I use it?

If you haven’t sprinkled paprika on your eggs, meat, poultry, soups, stews, fish, vegetables, etc, you are in for a treat when you do.

I especially like it sprinkled on hash browns, in cream sauces and stews. Depending on the type you buy,it can add a sweet or spicy flavor. Check labels to find the type you prefer, sweet or spicy. Do what I do, get both and try them.

Try Beef Paprika and if you are new to using Paprika, try a little less than 2 tsps and in time increase the amount to suit your personal taste.

INGREDIENTS
1/4 cup shortening
2 pounds lean beef chuck, trimmed and cut into 1 inch cubes
1 cup chopped onion
1 clove garlic, minced
3/4 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon mustard powder
2 teaspoons paprika
1 1/2 cups water
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/4 cup wate

..DIRECTIONS
1.Melt shortening in large skillet over medium high heat. Add meat, onion, and garlic; cook and stir until meat is browned.
2.Stir in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, salt, paprika, mustard and 1 1/2 cup water. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer 2 to 2 1/2 hours.
3.Blend flour and 1/4 cup water. Stir into meat. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Serve hot.
